Nov 18, 2007: PLEASE THINK FIRE SAFETY! With the rising costs of heating oil putting a pinch on everyone's pocketbook, many are looking at converting or at least supplementing with solid fuel devices (wood, coal, pellets, etc.) We caution that if you are not having your device installed by a professional that you follow the installation instruction very careful, especially the chimney. Most fire are not caused by the heating device itself, but by faulty or improperly installed chimneys. One big misconception is that masonary chimneys are safe forever. Even masonary constructed chimneys will deteriorate over time.We highly reccomend the you have your chimney cleaned and inspected by a professional chimney sweep. If you experience any problems with your solid fuel device call 911 immediately! We have the equipment and training to handle these situations. The fire company would much rather deal with a chimney fire than a house fire. Lets have a safe and uneventful winter season!
Sept 27, 2007: Good weather and a good turn out helped to make our open house a success this past Saturday. We would like to thank all that turned out and would like to especially thank Wegman's, Tops, P&C, F&T Distrubuting, Agway and Royal Court Restaurant for their gracious donations.
Aug 27, 2007: The Chief has announced that the Fire Company will be holding it's annual Open House September 22, 2007, from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be demonstrations of some of our more commonly used tools such as the Jaws of Life and Automated External Defibrillator, as well as a child safety seat clinic presented by members of the Tompkins County Sheriff's department and our very own Rescue Ray giving some classes on home fire safety. If that's not enough to drag you out, there will be free hot dogs and soda also. We'd love to have a great turn out from the community. Here's your chance to see what we do, and ask any questions you have about the Fire Company. All Enfield residents are invited and encouraged to attend. We hope to see you there!

The apparatus was built on a International tandem axle chassis at a total cost of $288,000.00. This new tanker has double the capacity of the piece it replaces, only requires one firefighter to operate, and is much safer thanks to remotely controlled dump gates and a rear view camera. Members will be training on the apparatus for the next couple of weeks before it is offically put in service.
June 11, 2007: Enfield Volunteer Fire Company firefighters took 1st place for best appearing fire company and 1st place for most men in line this past Saturday afternoon at the Montour Falls Firemens Parade.
May 7, 2007: It's grass and brush fire season again. The Fire Company would like to remind all residents to be extra careful when burning outside, and to follow all local laws regarding open burning. Also, if you do find that a fire has started, please call us right away rather than trying to fight it yourself. Sometimes a person can successfully put out a small grass fire, but even a small fire can get out of control very fast, so don't delay getting our trained personnel and equipment on the scene.
May 1, 2007: Barbecue season is over for EVFC. We had a good year, cooking more chicken than ever and adding one this year for a total of five. Thank you to all who came out to support us. The firefighters and Ladies Auxilliary put inmany hours for each barbecue, and we don't make as much profit as we'd like, but it's a good way for the community to visit us and get a good lunch in the process. Congratulations to our prize winners this year. Sherry Morse of Ithaca took home the brand new 32" TV, after being one of only about 35 people who bought enough dinners to qualify for the drawing. There were many more entries for the digital camera. Over 1250! Dale Laue of Enfield was the lucky winner. So, mark your calendars, only 8 months until the next Barbecue. We'll see you there!
April 7, 2007: The last Barbecue of the year is right around the corner. Please stop by on April 29th to help us close out what has been a very good barbecue season for us. We appreciate everyone who helped support us. We will also be announcing the winners of our Barbecue prizes that day, so you won't want to miss that. We will have a special guest here that day as well. Stacy Limber, owner of The Applegate Shop here in Enfield will have a display of the kinds of home decorating items she specializes in and will be taking orders. She has some very nice items for the home, so come enjoy a nice lunch and the Ladies Auxillary bake sale, and browse through Stacy's catalogs while you wait for the big prize drawing.
March 19, 2007: The last two Barbecues of the year are upon us. April's Barbecue will be the first Sunday rather than the second because the second Sunday is Easter. Because Mother's day falls on the second Sunday in May, we will not hold a Barbecue that day. Please join us instead on April 29th for the final Barbecue of this season. This will be your last chane to get in the drawing for the new T.V., so don't miss it!
March 15, 2007: After a much publicized, and sometimes emotional battle, the Town Board finally renewed a fire protection contract. It wasn't quite what we had hoped for, but in the end the fire company settled for the sake of the town. We would like to thank all those who supported us through this process. In the end, we exist to serve the residents of this town, and we are happy to be able to continue to do that.
March 05, 2007: New to our web site is a Training page. Please visit this page to see what we do at the station every Thursday evening. And speaking of training, here are some pictures of Ice Rescue Training that took place this February, led by Capt. Ben Giles
Feb. 01, 2007: The first month of the new year is over. EVFC was dispatched to 24 calls in the month of January, ranging in severity from a smoke detector set off by dust to calling in a helicopter for an accident victim and a full arrest where the patient didn't recover. No structure fires this month, after having three in the last two weeks of December. Check out our call log to see a list of every call for the month of January, and as always, if you have any questions about the fire company please contact us at askthechief@enfieldfirecompany.com.
Jan. 22, 2007: Happy Aniversary EVFC!!!! On this date in 1948 the Enfield Volunteer Fire Company was incorporated.
Jan. 16, 2007: The first barbecue of the year is in the books. Despite the rainy weather we sold over 350 halves of chicken. Thanks to all who came, and we hope to see them all back in February, plus more.
Jan. 04, 2007: We started the New Year off right by voting in two new members at the General meeting last night. I would like to once again encourage anyone who lives in Enfield that's ever even thought about being a firefighter to come to the station some Thursday evening and check us out. Come meet some of us, check out the station, see what we do, ask any questions you may have. The more members we have the better able we are to serve the community so we're always looking for more. The only risk in coming to check us out is that you'll get hooked like we all did!
Jan. 04, 2007: It's babrbecue saeson again in Enfield. Join us the second Sunday of every month January through May for some delicious chicken barbecue. April's barbecue will be on the first Sunday since the second Sunday is a holiday. Back again for 2007 is the chance to win a brand new digital TV. It's even bigger than last year, a 32" SDTV, and one lucky person is guaranteed to take it home at the end of the barbecue season! We are also giving away a digital camera, and all you have to do to be eligible is buy some yummy barbecue chicken. So come get some chicken, and maybe a great prize as well. We start serving at 11:00 am and go until the chicken runs out. Hope to see you there!
Dec. 23, 2006: This isn't really news, but it's the Holiday season, and we've had a rash of fires already this month. We want everyone to have a safe and Happy Holiday season, so please be careful with Christmas trees and lights and space heaters. Follow manufacturers instructions for use, and hopefully The only red equipment that visits you this holiday will be Santa's Sleigh. Happy New Year, Enfield!
NEWSFLASH!!!! The fire department is on the Web! The site is brand new, so please bear with us while we build it and work out the bugs. We will soon have pictures and info on our fire trucks, details on the calls we respond to including pictures for some, and our "Ask the Chief" section, where visitors can ask those things they've always wanted to know and get an answer. Also, we hope to provide in depth profiles on several members a month, so come in and "get to know" your fire department.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for announcements such as upcoming chicken barbecues. Best chicken in the county, you won't want to miss it!
